Contact Your Member of Congress

In order of effectiveness: 

• Face to face meeting is most effective. 

• Calling 

• Email (some action items will include a direct link) 

• Letter writing is least effective as mail must be inspected prior to delivery to senators- this will delay your message by several days.

If calling say “I am a MN resident (give address) and I’m contacting you because….”

If you talk to a staffer- tell them you want a response from the senator.

If you talk to a staffer - ask for their name. You will be able to let senator know who took your call if you don’t hear a response.

Voice mail/ leave a message and say you need a response – please let me know what he/she plans to do.

Call or email only once per ask. Once you call or email you become a tally mark and calling more than once on the same topic does not increase your tallies. 

If the bill changes and will be voted on again- you can recall or email the about the updated bill.
